Poquott Health
Poquott’s geography affords us beautiful wooded areas and scenic shorelines. Some health concerns (tic borne illness, water quality) come with the territory. While medical professionals should be sought in the event of illness, below are a few area related health topics for residents to consider.
AIR & WATER
While Air and Water Quality are important to any community, Poquott Village’s close proximity to the Port Jefferson Plant and Port Jefferson Harbor give rise to more interest and concern. Our Environmental Commissioner works regularly with local and state agencies to ensure that our air and water quality remains within or better than the standards set forth by the DEC. He can be contacted directly at environmental@villageofpoquott.com

TICK BORNE ILLNESS & LYME DISEASE
Poquott’s deer population and wooded areas make it a higher risk area for the three three kinds of ticks most commonly found on humans on Long Island, Black-legged ticks, Lone Star Ticks and American Dog ticks. All of them can transmit disease including Lyme Disease. Below please see some resources to help our residents better understand and manage the concern and mitigate the risks. Special thanks to Brookhaven Councilwoman, Valerie Cartright for organizing local seminars to bring awareness to our community.

NOISE POLLUTIONS
Awareness is growing for health and environmental harm from noise and pollution and many neighboring communities and businesses have begun transitioning to clean, quiet outdoor power equipment and noise restrictions. With more people working at home and more children in the Village of Poquott being mindful of how outdoor noises from equipment being used on your property may negatively effect your neighbors is more important than ever. Below are some links to more information regarding the impacts of environmental noise.
